Raúl Gonzáles Blanco - Al Saad |
Real Madrid
has officially confirmed that the 35th Santiago Bernabeu Trophy will be played
at 22:30 on 22nd August against Qatar's Al-Sadd, where former Real Madrid
captain, Raúl González currently plies his trade.
The match
will be the club's final pre-season match, even though Real Madrid will have
kicked off the 2013/14 league campaign a few days earlier. This will be Raúl
González's first game at the Santiago Bernabéu since his departure and to
commemorate this occasion, he will play one half with each team, as Real Madrid
and Al-Sadd agreed with the player.
It will be
the first time that a Qatari side takes part in Real Madrid's summer
tournament. Real has won it a total of 23 times and has won it for the last
eight straight years. In 2013, Madrid thrashed Colombian side,
Millonarios 8-0.
Al-Sadd's honours include three Qatari league titles,
thirteen Emir of Qatar Cup titles and two AFC Champions League titles. Raul
joined the Qatari club in May 2012, after two seasons at Bundesliga outfit
Schalke 04, where he received a hero's send-off.
Raúl
González left Real Madrid in 2010 after sixteen years at the club, during which
he won several titles including: six La Liga titles, three Champions League
titles, one European Super Cup and two Inter-continental Cups.
